ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Warm and moist southerly flow will impact Southwest and Central Virginia. Expect warmer temperatures, more cloud cover, and the chance for rain for the next few days.
Patchy fog and drizzle are possible for the Wednesday morning commute. Temperatures will start in the mild upper 50s and 60s under mostly cloudy skies. While there is a slight chance for stray rain showers during the day, much of the region will stay mostly dry. Afternoon temperatures will rise into the unseasonably warm middle/upper 70s. A few spots may hit the 80-degree mark.
A slow-moving front will pass through the Mid-Atlantic on Thursday. Scattered rain showers will have the chance to move through, but rainfall amounts will generally be less than a quarter of an inch. Highs will be in the 70s and lower 80s under cloudy skies.

Rain chances will decrease on Friday, but a few stray showers may pass through. It will be slightly cooler with variably cloudy skies overhead. Afternoon highs will be in the lower/middle 70s.

The weekend will start mostly dry, but increasing rain chances are ahead. For Saturday, partly to mostly cloudy skies will be overhead with highs in the cooler 60s. A cold front will approach the Mid-Atlantic on Sunday and Monday, bringing scattered rain showers to Southwest and Central Virginia.
TRACKING THE TROPICS
Hurricane Rafael will continue to strengthen as it approaches western Cuba this Wednesday.

Rafael is expected to make landfall along the U.S. Gulf Coast either this weekend or early next week. A cold front will tap into some of Rafael’s tropical moisture before heading toward the Mid-Atlantic. This front will move through Southwest and Central Virginia on Sunday, leading to scattered showers in the region.
