ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A Winter Storm Watch continues for parts of the Highlands as snow is likely Thursday through Saturday. The watch will likely be upgraded to a warning on Wednesday.

Snowfall will be heaviest in the mountains of West Virginia and western Highland County where five to ten inches is expected. In the Mountain Empire, the higher elevations should receive three to five inches. Eastward and lower in elevation, little to no snow is expected.

Temperatures will remain warm on Wednesday ahead of a cold front. The front will bring scattered rain showers to the region. Rainfall should remain light.
Temperatures will start warm on Wednesday in the 50s. By mid-afternoon, temperatures will rise into the 60s and 70s.
Winds will increase Wednesday night and remain strong through Friday with gusts of 30 to 40 mph possible.

The wind will push cold air into the region with temperatures dropping from near 70 on Wednesday into the 40s this weekend. Temperatures will rebound into the 50s this weekend and 60s early next week.
