Pinpoint Weather: Warm Tuesday, rain returns

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Temperatures will remain warm on Tuesday as the region sits ahead of a cold front. Temperatures will start the day in the 40s before rising into the 50s and 60s during the afternoon.

Showers look to return on Tuesday with steady rain forming late in the afternoon or during the early evening hours, continuing into Wednesday.

Much needed rainfall is expected with one to inches expected before this system moves east later in the day on Wednesday.

If the cold air can move in before the rain moves out, we could see the rain changing to snow. Most of the accumulation will stay on the western slopes of the mountains, but a dusting to a half inch is possible in spots eastward to the Blue Ridge. Higher accumulations are expected at the mountaintops with lower in the valleys.

Behind the front, windy conditions will develop for Wednesday and Thursday with gusts to 40 mph possible.

Temperatures will then turn cold for the end of the week and weekend, with highs in the 30s and 40s.
