ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Thursday through Saturday for the western portions of Greenbrier, Highland and Pocahontas Counties.
From Thursday through Saturday, five to ten inches of snow could fall on the western mountains in the Highlands. Little if any is expected to the east. In the Mountain Empire, up to four inches of snow is possible late this week with little to none in the valleys.
Until a cold front arrives, warm air will continue for Tuesday as temperatures are expected to rise into the 60s after starting in the 40s and 50s.
A cold front will approach the region on Tuesday which will bring more clouds. Showers are possible mainly west of the Blue Ridge on Tuesday afternoon. Some of those showers could spread to the east during the evening hours.
Behind the cold front Wednesday evening, winds will increase with gusts to 40 mph possible. Windy conditions will continue on Thursday.
The wind will push cold air into the region. Temperatures will top out near 70 through Wednesday with highs in the 40s Thursday and Friday. Temperatures will return to the 50s starting on Saturday.
