Pinpoint Weather: Temperatures trending cooler

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Record high temperatures were recorded across the region on Thursday with Lynchburg, Danville and Blacksburg one to three degrees above the prior records.

A cold front will move south of the region overnight into Friday which will allow cooler air to begin filtering into the region, even as sunshine makes a return.

Temperatures will start the day on Friday in the 50s with afternoon highs mainly in the 70s.

Even with temperatures a few degrees cooler, a couple of record highs are possible. Right now, the forecast calls for Lynchburg and Danville tying the prior records and Roanoke within two degrees.

Temperatures will trend down even more this weekend with highs in the 50s and 60s. Temperatures will trend up a bit next week with highs in the 60s and 70s through Wednesday. Another cold front comes in on Thursday bringing another chance for rain and another drop in temperatures.

Through Wednesday of next week, much of the region can expect to see up to a half inch of rain with slightly more in the counties that border West Virginia.
