Pinpoint Weather: Strong winds could lead to more power outages

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A Winter Weather Advisory continues overnight for the potential for black ice as temperatures will drop below freezing overnight. Late this evening, any remaining winter weather will exit the region.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for Grayson, Carroll and Floyd Counties until 6 a.m. on Tuesday. Wind gusts to 55 mph are possible, especially at higher elevations.

Winds will increase Monday night and continue to gust through the day on Tuesday. Speeds should decrease a little Tuesday night.

Winds will increase as a cold front continues to move away from the area. Once high pressure builds in, wind speeds will decrease later in the day on Wednesday. Increasing sunshine is expected for the next couple of days.

Due to a northwest wind, cold air will continue to filter into the region. Temperatures on Tuesday will start in the teens and 20s before rising into the 20s and 30s for the afternoon.

Temperatures will remain below average throughout the week with highs in the 20s and 30s and lows in the teens and 20s. Another chance for winter weather could arrive Friday night.
