ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A Wind Advisory has been issued for areas west of the Blue Ridge from noon on Friday to 6 a.m. on Saturday.
Winds will increase during the afternoon with gusts of 45 to 55 mph possible. The stronger winds will be at the higher elevations.
Snow will continue for the western slopes of the mountains with occasional flurries or snow showers moving eastward. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories continue through Saturday.
Total accumulations will remain in the higher elevations close to the West Virginia border and into the Mountain Empire.
There may be a lull in snowfall Friday morning, but it will pick up again during the afternoon as more energy drops to the southeast.
Temperatures will get cold overnight, with a freeze possible across most of the region. Temperatures will be slightly cooler Friday afternoon with highs in the 40s.
Warmer air returns for the weekend and the first half of next week. Next week, there is a daily chance for showers.
