ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—While a mostly dry Wednesday is in store for Southwest and Central Virginia, a storm system will bring scattered rain showers to the region on Thanksgiving Day.
Wednesday will start with morning temperatures in the chilly upper 20s and 30s. Skies will become cloudy as a storm system approaches from the west. Afternoon temperatures will rise into the seasonably cool 50s.
The approaching storm system will impact the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern U.S. Wednesday night into Thanksgiving, bringing scattered rain showers to the region. There is a greater chance for rain on Thursday morning, but a few spotty showers may linger into the afternoon and evening. Rainfall amounts are anticipated to be less than half an inch.
For Thanksgiving, morning temperatures will start in the lower 40s. Highs will be in the upper 40s and 50s under overcast skies. Winds will become breezy.
Expect brisk winds and a few west-slope rain/snow showers on Friday. For many, increasing sunshine is slated for the day. Black Friday shoppers should prepare for chilly conditions. Morning lows will be in the lower 30s. Afternoon temperatures will only reach the 30s and 40s. Parts of Central Virginia and Southside could warm up into the lower 50s.
The weekend will be even colder. On Saturday and Sunday, morning temperatures will start in the sub-freezing 20s. Afternoon highs will be in the 30s and lower 40s. There is a slight chance for mountain snow showers from Saturday night into Sunday morning, but many will not see wintry precipitation.
To start December, arctic air will continue to impact Southwest and Central Virginia. Afternoon highs will be in the 30s and lower 40s for Monday and Tuesday—about ten to twenty degrees below average. Wind chill values in the single digits are possible during the morning hours.
