ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – A strong cold front will push through bringing afternoon and evening rain, mountain snow, and gusty wind.
Wind will increase Tuesday afternoon with gusts to around 25 mph by Tuesday night. Gusts to around 35 mph are possible Wednesday with gusts to 50 mph possible along higher elevations.
Tuesday will be cloudy with morning lows in the 30s to low 50s and afternoon highs in the 40s and 50s to around 60.
For all but the mountain communities, New Year’s Eve will be partially clear and blustery.
Snowfall in the mountain regions may be significant. The NWS has a Winter Storm Watch in effect for Snowshoe and surrounding high elevations.
Tuesday’s rainfall will be widespread and then the rest of the week should be dry. There is a developing chance of snow on Sunday night and Monday.
Temperatures this week will slide down to well below normal by the weekend.
