ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Cloudier and cooler conditions are slated for Wednesday. Rain showers will return to Southwest and Central Virginia late Wednesday into Thursday.
Little warming is forecast for Wednesday. Temperatures will stay in the 30s and lower 40s throughout the day with mostly cloudy to overcast skies overhead.
Patchy drizzle and isolated showers are possible during the morning and afternoon, but there is a greater chance for scattered rain showers Wednesday night. Pockets of freezing rain/drizzle and sleet may develop along and north of I-64. To the south, any icing should be spotty and light, mainly confined to the higher elevations.

An Ice Storm Warning is in effect for Greenbrier, western Highland, and Pocahontas Counties through Thursday morning. Additionally, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Alleghany, Bath, eastern Highland, and Rockbridge Counties. Ice totals up to three-tenths of an inch are possible, which could result in slick road conditions and power outages.

For Thursday, scattered rain showers will remain in the forecast with mostly cloudy skies overhead. A warm southwest breeze will result in temperatures rising into the middle/upper 50s and lower 60s by the afternoon.

Some rain showers may linger into Friday morning. Otherwise, clouds will gradually decrease during the day. Southwest and Central Virginia can expect breezy and warmer-than-average temperatures. Morning lows will be in the upper 30s and 40s. Afternoon highs will top out in the 50s and lower 60s.


A storm system will impact the region over the weekend. Scattered rain showers are anticipated on Saturday. It will be cooler with highs in the 40s.
