ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A cold front will pass through Southwest and Central Virginia on Thursday. Rain will end during the morning, but winds will pick up.
Lingering ice will continue to weigh down tree branches and power lines. Power outages remain possible on Thursday. However, above-freezing temperatures and some sunshine on Thursday will allow for melting.
Rain showers may pass through early Thursday morning with some freezing rain possible. A passing cold front will help to push the showers out of the region before 10 a.m. Skies will partially clear during the afternoon. Wind gusts of 20 – 30 mph are expected. Highs will be in the 40s and lower 50s.
High pressure will build into the area on Friday, leading to quieter weather for Valentine’s Day. Morning lows will be in the frigid teens and 20s. Afternoon temperatures will reach the upper 30s and 40s under mostly to partly sunny skies.
Rain will return to the area for the weekend. While freezing rain is possible on Saturday morning, much of the region should see mainly rain on Saturday and Sunday. Periods of heavy rainfall could lead to flooding concerns, especially since the ground is saturated from recent rain and snow. Snow showers may develop along our western slopes Sunday morning into Monday. Winds will pick up.
Mostly dry conditions are slated for Monday, but blustery winds will impact Southwest and Central Virginia. It will be noticeably cooler with highs in the 30s. A wintry mix is possible again on Wednesday.
