ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A fast-moving cold front will impact the region on Friday. For the Highlands and Mountain Empire snow showers are likely. Elsewhere, rain showers and a few flurries are possible during the afternoon and early evening.
Snowfall will mainly impact the higher elevations with the valleys seeing nothing to a dusting. The mountains could pick up one to four inches of snow.
Temperatures will remain chilly, but outside of the mountains, they will remain above freezing, which is why snow accumulation is not expected for most. Temperatures will start the day in the 20s and 30s before rising into the 30s and 40s.
Behind the cold front, winds will increase, with wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph expected Friday night into Saturday.
The wind will push even colder air into the region with high temperatures for the weekend in the 30s. Temperatures return to the 40s on Monday and 50s on Wednesday. A few showers are possible Tuesday with slightly better chances Wednesday and Thursday.
