ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Southwest and Central Virginia can expect a mild and mostly dry start to the week. However, a cold front will move through overnight Monday, resulting in rain showers and cooler conditions.
Monday will start with morning temperatures in the chilly upper 20s and 30s. Overall, mostly sunny skies will be overhead for much of the day. Afternoon highs will be in the warmer-than-average 60s. Clouds will increase late in the day.
A cold front will pass through Monday night, resulting in overnight rain showers. There is a greater chance for scattered showers along western slopes, but spotty light rain showers may pass through Central Virginia and Southside. Rain chances will dwindle on Tuesday morning as the cold front exits to the east.
Brisk northwest winds will flow behind the passing cold front. For Tuesday, expect a mix of sun and clouds with 20 – 30 mph wind gusts possible. Highs will be in the 50s in the New River Valley and Alleghany Highlands while temperatures will top out in the 60s in the Roanoke Valley, Central Virginia, and Southside.
High pressure will keep Southwest and Central Virginia mostly dry on Wednesday, but cooler air will continue to pool into the region. Morning temperatures will start in the cold upper 20s and lower 30s before rising into the lower/middle 50s by the afternoon. Mostly to partly cloudy skies will be overhead for the day.
A storm system will impact the Mid-Atlantic on Thanksgiving. Scattered rain showers are anticipated. There is a higher chance of rain during the morning, but rain showers will linger into the afternoon and evening. Rainfall totals of up to half an inch are possible. Highs will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s under overcast skies.
Friday will be breezy with upslope rain and snow showers possible. Otherwise, variably cloudy skies are slated for the day. Black Friday shoppers should prepare for chilly conditions. Morning lows will be in the 30s. Afternoon temperatures will only reach the 30s and 40s. The brisk winds will make it feel colder.
