ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for areas along and either side of the Blue Ridge Saturday. Areas of freezing rain are possible before temperatures rise above freezing.

Icing for most should be light with elevated amounts at the higher elevations.

Heavy rainfall is also expected Saturday and Sunday. A Flood Watch is in effect west of the Blue Ridge. One to two inches of rain is expected, which could cause flooding along streams and creeks.


Rain is expected to move in Saturday morning, starting as freezing rain for some. For most, temperatures will rise above freezing by midday. Rain will continue into the afternoon with a brief break before the final round moves through late Saturday into Sunday morning.
Temperatures will start off Saturday in the 20s and 30s before rising into the 30s and 40s during the afternoon.
Temperatures will be warmer on Sunday with highs in the 50s. Temperatures fall into the 30s and 40s next week with another potential for wintry weather moving in Wednesday and Thursday.
