ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Mild temperatures and increasing rain chances are forecast for Wednesday as a cold front approaches from the west.
Pockets of dense fog are possible for the Wednesday morning commute. A few spotty morning showers may move through. Skies will become cloudy as the day continues. Temperatures will rise into the warmer-than-average middle/upper 50s and 60s.
Rain chances will increase from the mid-afternoon through the evening as a cold front approaches from the west. Rainfall amounts of less than half an inch are anticipated. Winds will become breezy with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Drier weather is expected on Thursday as the cold front moves east away from Southwest and Central Virginia. Much cooler air will begin to move into the area. Afternoon temperatures will reach the 40s and lower 50s under increasing sunshine.

A mix of sun and clouds will be overhead on Friday. Morning lows will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s while afternoon temperatures will rise into the 40s. Mountain snow showers may develop late in the day as another cold front approaches the region. A few light rain showers may move eastward toward the Blue Ridge. The spotty precipitation may linger into Saturday.


Southwest and Central Virginia will kick off astronomical winter on a fitting note. Breezy winds will blow through with highs topping in the cold 30s and lower 40s. A mix of sun and clouds will be overhead.
The cold conditions continue into Sunday and Monday. Morning lows will be in the teens and lower 20s. Afternoon temperatures will reach the 30s.
