ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — An Ice Storm Warning is in effect for Greenbrier, western Highland and Pocahontas Counties through Thursday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Alleghany, Bath, eastern Highland and Rockbridge Counties.

Areas of freezing drizzle and freeze rain are expected Wednesday afternoon and evening, ending early Thursday morning. The higher elevations may see a little sleet and snow mixed in as well. To the south, any icing should be spotty and light, mainly confined to the higher elevations. A few pockets of sleet will also be possible.

Drizzle is possible in the morning and early afternoon hours before rain and freezing rain move in. As a warm front lifts northward, temperatures will begin to rise, changing ice to rain.
Temperatures on Wednesday will be much colder, with highs in the 30s for most of the region. The Mountain Empire and Southside will get into the 40s.
Rainfall will continue into Thursday as temperatures rise. Rainfall of 0.25″ to 0.50″ is expected east of the Blue Ridge with up to one inch expected to the west.

Temperatures will stay warm on Friday with a slight cool down for the weekend. Colder air returns early next week. With moisture in the region, rain and a wintry mix are possible.
