Pinpoint Weather: Dry Wednesday ahead of rainy Thursday


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A cool and dry Wednesday is expected across Southwest and Central Virginia. However, a storm system will bring cloudy and rainy conditions to the region on Thursday.

Prepare for a cold start to Wednesday! Temperatures will plummet into the upper 20s and lower 30s overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday morning. Otherwise, it will be a mostly sunny start to the day with afternoon highs in the cooler mid-50s. Clouds will increase late Wednesday.

A storm system will impact the East Coast on Thursday, bringing widespread rain to Southwest and Central Virginia. Under cloudy skies, highs will be in the 40s. Overall, this will be a beneficial rain, with rainfall totals of 0.5 – 1.5″ possible. Although many will see rain, freezing rain may occur at higher elevations of the Alleghany Highlands and New River Valley.

Drier air will filter in behind the storm system. While a few morning showers are possible, much of the region will begin to dry off during the day on Friday. Winds may become breezy at times. Skies will partially clear as afternoon temperatures rise into the 50s and lower 60s.

Mostly dry weather is anticipated for the weekend. Saturday will be mostly sunny and breezy with afternoon temperatures reaching the upper 50s and lower/middle 60s. Sunday will be slightly milder with highs in the 60s across Southwest and Central Virginia.
