ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Frigid arctic air will impact Southwest and Central Virginia through the middle of the week.

Snow flurries are possible on Monday morning. Otherwise, partly to mostly sunny skies will be overhead for the day. Winds will be blustery at times. Morning temperatures will start in the teens and single digits, but subzero wind chill values are possible west of the Blue Ridge. Afternoon highs will be in the teens and 20s.

The dangerously cold conditions will continue into Tuesday and Wednesday. Morning lows will be in the teens and single digits while afternoon temperatures will reach the teens and 20s. Below-zero wind chill values are anticipated each morning along and west of the Blue Ridge. Some upslope snow showers are possible on Tuesday.
A gradual warming trend will occur for the latter half of the week. For Thursday, a mix of sun and clouds will be overhead. Morning temperatures will start in the bitterly cold teens and single digits. However, highs will be in the 30s.

Some scattered upslope snow showers are possible toward the western mountains late Friday. Otherwise, more clouds are expected across Southwest and Central Virginia. Afternoon temperatures will reach the upper 20s and 30s.


Near-average temperatures are anticipated for the weekend. For Saturday and Sunday, highs will be in the 40s. Morning lows will still be below the freezing mark.
