ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—A storm system will bring scattered rain showers and breezy winds to Southwest and Central Virginia on Thanksgiving.
Although rain showers are forecast for Thanksgiving, it won’t rain the entire day. There is a greater chance of scattered showers during the morning, but a few spotty showers may linger into the afternoon and evening. Rainfall totals will generally be less than half an inch.
Morning temperatures will start in the 40s for Thanksgiving morning. Highs will reach the upper 40s and 50s under mostly cloudy skies. Winds will become breezy with gusts as high as 30 mph possible.
West-slope snow showers may develop on Friday. Otherwise, increasing sunshine and blustery winds are slated for many in Southwest and Central Virginia. Black Friday shoppers should prepare for chilly conditions. Morning lows will be in the lower 30s while afternoon temperatures will only reach the 30s and 40s. Parts of Southside could warm up into the lower 50s.
The weekend will feel very winter-like. On Saturday and Sunday, morning temperatures will start in the sub-freezing 20s. Afternoon highs will be in the 30s and lower/middle 40s. Brisk winds will make it feel even colder. There is a slight chance for mountain snow showers from Saturday night into Sunday morning, but many will not see wintry precipitation.
Arctic air will continue to impact Southwest and Central Virginia for the first few days of December. For Monday and Tuesday, afternoon highs will be in the 30s and lower 40s—about ten to twenty degrees below average. Wind chill values in the single digits are possible during the morning hours.
