Pinpoint Weather: Cold wind, snow for some Wednesday and Thursday


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for western Pocahontas County from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.

Snow for the western mountains could total two to six inches, with valleys to the east seeing little to none. The Mountain Empire could see up to an inch in the higher elevations.

A High Wind Watch is in effect for Grayson County from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon. Wind gusts to 60 mph are possible at higher elevations. High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories will likely be issued on Wednesday.

Ahead of a cold front, temperatures will be slightly warmer on Wednesday. After a cold start in the teens, temperatures will rise into the 30s and 40s during the afternoon.

As the cold front moves in during the afternoon, wind speeds will pick up and the next push of cold air arrives. The cold air and windy conditions will stick around into Thursday. Temperatures on Thursday will drop throughout the day.

Behind the front on Friday, temperatures will drop back into the 30s. A warmup begins for the weekend with highs in the 40s on Saturday and 50s on Sunday and Monday. Temperatures will rise to near 60 on Tuesday. Rain chances return for Monday and Tuesday.
