ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Arctic air will linger in Southwest and Central through the end of the week. However, it won’t be as cold outside with a warming trend slated for the weekend.
Cold Weather Advisories remain in effect for Highland, western Greenbrier, and northwestern Pocahontas counties through Thursday morning. Wind chills as low as ten below zero may occur, so bundle up in warm clothes.

A mix of sun and clouds will be overhead on Thursday. Morning temperatures will start in the frigid single digits and teens. However, some locations will warm above freezing with afternoon highs topping out in the 30s.

Due to a passing cloud front, some scattered upslope snow showers are possible toward the mountains of West Virginia Thursday night into Friday morning. Little to no snow accumulation is anticipated.
However, the cold front will reinforce some cold air into Southwest and Central Virginia on Friday. Variably cloudy skies are anticipated for the day. Morning lows will be in the teens and lower 20s. Afternoon temperatures will reach the upper 20s and 30s.

A warming trend will take place over the weekend. For Saturday, morning lows will be in the very cold teens with afternoon temperatures rising into the middle/upper 30s and lower 40s. Sunday will be warmer and closer to the seasonal average. Morning temperatures will start in the 20s before rising into the 40s by the afternoon.


A weak disturbance may bring some rain and snow showers to Southwest and Central Virginia on Monday. However, high pressure will build back into the region for the middle of the week, resulting in drier weather. For Tuesday and Wednesday, afternoon temperatures will reach the 40s and lower 50s.
