ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Cold and windy conditions are anticipated across Southwest and Central Virginia on Friday. Snow showers will continue to impact areas west of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
An upper-level low will aid in upslope snow development, especially along the western slopes of Pocahontas and Highland counties. The Mountain Empire and West Virginia mountains can expect two to five inches of snowfall. However, western Highland and northwestern Pocahontas counties could see five to 15 inches. While some snow is possible further eastward, little to no accumulation is anticipated.
Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories will remain in effect for some counties through Saturday morning.
Colder conditions are slated for Friday. Morning temperatures will start in the 20s and 30s while highs will be in the upper 30s and 40s.
Wind gusts of 30 – 50 mph are possible. Wind Advisories will go into effect for counties along/west of the Blue Ridge from noon Friday until Saturday morning. Downed trees and additional power outages may occur.
The snow and wintry mix will wrap up Saturday morning with variably cloudy skies slated for the day. Afternoon temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s. While they won’t be as gusty, brisk winds will remain in the forecast.
Quieter and milder conditions are expected for Sunday and Monday. While morning lows will be in the chilly 30s, afternoon temperatures will rise into the 50s and 60s. Showers may return to Southwest and Central Virginia late Monday through Thanksgiving.
