Pinpoint Weather: Cloudier and cool Christmas holiday

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Seasonably cool conditions will return to Southwest and Central Virginia for the Christmas holiday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for northwestern Pocahontas County on Tuesday. Areas of freezing rain and snow are expected toward the mountains of West Virginia. A trace amount of ice may accumulate while snowfall totals of up to an inch are possible.

A few rain/snow showers are possible north of I-64. Otherwise, much of Southwest and Central Virginia will stay mostly dry on Tuesday with mostly to partly cloudy skies overhead. Morning lows will be in the cold lower 20s. However, seasonably cool conditions are anticipated for the afternoon with highs in the 40s and lower 50s.

Don’t expect a White Christmas this year. Mostly cloudy skies and cool temperatures are in the holiday forecast. Morning temperatures will start in the upper 20s and lower 30s before warming up into the 40s and lower 50s by the afternoon.

For the remainder of the week, morning lows will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s while afternoon highs will be in the 40s and 50s. A mix of sun and clouds will be overhead on Thursday and Friday.

A cold front will approach Southwest and Central Virginia over the weekend. Rain showers are possible on Saturday and Sunday, but it doesn’t look to be a washout at this time.
