ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Cold and mostly dry weather conditions are expected across Southwest and Central Virginia through the beginning of next week.
It will be a breezy and chilly Friday across the region, so Black Friday shoppers should dress warmly. Morning lows will be in the lower 30s while afternoon temperatures will only reach the 30s and 40s under a mix of sun and clouds. Parts of Southside could warm up into the lower 50s. Northwest winds with gusts of 20 – 30 mph are possible during the afternoon.
The weekend will be even colder with brisk winds blowing through. On Saturday and Sunday, morning temperatures will start in the sub-freezing 20s. Wind chill values in the single digits and teens may occur.
Afternoon highs will be in the 30s and lower/middle 40s. There is a chance for light mountain snow showers from Saturday night into Sunday morning, but many will not see wintry precipitation.
The cold air will remain in place for the first few days of December. For Monday and Tuesday, afternoon highs will be in the 30s and lower 40s—about ten to twenty degrees below average. Wind chill values in the single digits are possible during the morning hours. A disturdance may bring patchy snow showers to western slopes on Tuesday.
The disturbance will help to push the cold air out of Southwest and Central Virginia. A warming trend will begin on Wednesday with highs in the lower/middle 40s. Thursday will be slightly warmer. Afternoon temperatures will reach the 40s and near-average lower 50s.
