ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Thanksgiving is right around the corner and that means the Drumstick Dash is too.
The Dash has been an annual Thanksgiving tradition for thousands in Roanoke since 2006 and raises hundreds of thousands of dollars each year for the Roanoke Rescue Mission.
Last year, the race brought in more than 8,000 participants and nearly $300,000 in donations and the race is on pace to top those marks in 2024.
While registration continued until race morning, packet pick-up began Saturday at the Rescue Mission.
“We are thrilled to have it here at the Mission every year now for packet pick-up so that folks can come here onto the campus, they can see where their contribution, where their donation is going,” said Roanoke Rescue Mission director of marketing and communications Lisa Thompson.
If you were not able to pick up your official race t-shirt and bib on Saturday, packet pick-up continues Monday, November 24-Wednesday, November 26 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Rescue Mission.
There is also an option to pick up your gear on the morning of the race by the start line in Elmwood Park.
For those unable to make it to the Dash in person but still want to give back to the community, there is a virtual race option open until the end of the month where you can make your donation and log your miles on your time.
