BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) – The Blacksburg Ballet has announced its annual production of The Nutcracker for locals to attend along with educational opportunities.
The educational field trip will occur on Friday, December 13, and full-length performances on Saturday, December 14.
The performance is made possible by 25 local sponsors, allowing over 2,000 students and community members to enjoy the field trip performances at no cost.
The field trip performance will be a shortened version of The Nutcracker at 10 a.m. at Virginia Tech’s Moss Arts Center in Blacksburg. The shortened version is designed to fit into the school schedule. There is also limited seating at an hour run time of 12:30 p.m.
The performance showcases experienced and inexperienced dancers from the local community to feature local talent and young dancers to learn and share the stage with professional dancers. This is also part of the growth of the arts in the New River Valley.
“We are thrilled to offer this free field trip experience to so many local students and families, and it’s all possible because of our incredible sponsors,” said Paige Guynn, Artistic Director of the Blacksburg Ballet. “The Nutcracker is a magical experience, and we are so proud to bring this production to life with dancers from our very own community. It’s a chance for the next generation to experience the beauty of live theater while being inspired by the hard work and dedication of both new and experienced performers.”
