ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Of the roughly forty flights Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport sees daily, only five were canceled during Tuesday’s storm.
Eric Monday, general counsel at ROA, says other airports, not Roanoke’s canceled those flights. The tarmac, he said was wet but clear.
“We’ve got blades that scrape and brushes that blow, we’ve done pre-treating with chemicals as well,” he said. “Our guys were on it, and they were on it as of 4 a.m. this morning.”
Bethany Hull flew in from Orlando via LaGuardia.
“It was smooth, a little gray coming in a little ominous,” she said. However from her window seat on the plane, she says she was more worried about the road conditions than the runway conditions.
“I was looking at the roads seeing if there were cars on the roads,” she said. “There were, going slow.”
