ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Mill Mountain Zoo is welcoming a new edition to the zoo family.
Tommy, the non-releasable Bald Eagle, will join the zoo’s family after being rescued in Atlantic Beach, NC after being injured and unable to fly.
Tommy is missing some of the main feathers on his left wing which is preventing him from flying full flight which is critical in the wild.
Elsie the Bald Eagle who is already at the zoo and will soon be accompanied by Tommy as they are a part of the eagle conservation.
Bald Eagles play a critical role in our ecosystem, however, they are especially vulnerable to threats such as trapping, pesticides, and low power lines.
