Member One donates $145k to 14 local nonprofits


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Member one, a division of Virginia Credit Union is celebrating a $145,000 donation to local charities as a part of the Season of Giving Campaign.

The donations will be given across 14 local nonprofits to aid their work and programs including organizations serving veterans, promoting food security, and supporting healthy and educational programs for local youth.

“We’re proud to support our community partners and their vital work,” said Member One Market President Tim Rowe. “Giving back to the communities in which we live and work is an integral part of our mission, and our donations are an important way we acknowledge the charities and organizations that strengthen our communities. The programs and initiatives we support are having a positive, even life-changing, impact for our friends, neighbors and families.”

In recent weeks, Member One has donated to the following organizations:

  • Carilion Clinic Foundation ($25,000) – A nonprofit raising funds to support Carilion Clinic, the Roanoke-based healthcare network serving more than a million people. Our donation will support care for pediatric cancer patients
  • HumanKind ($20,000) – Serving locations across much of Virginia, HumanKind is a family-focused nonprofit offering financial coaching, childcare, parenting support, and transportation programs. Our donation will support the organization’s Lynchburg-based Early Head Start program
  • New River Community Action Inc. ($20,000) – A nonprofit offering a variety of programs and services to prevent and address poverty and improve the lives of individuals and families. Our contribution will support Virginia CARES, a reentry program for those recently returned from incarceration
  • Junior Achievement of Southwest Virginia ($10,000) – A nonprofit dedicated to empowering today’s youth by furthering their education and teaching them about personal finance and money management, entrepreneurship, and work readiness
  • Feeding Southwest Virginia ($10,000) – A charitable food assistance organization serving 26 counties and nine cities
  • Beans and Rice ($5,000) – A New River Valley nonprofit working to promote food security, family stability, and youth development
  • West End Center for Youth ($5,000) – A Roanoke-based after-school facility and program focused on academic enrichment, health and wellness
  • LEAP (Local Environmental Agriculture Project) – ($5,000) – A nonprofit organization committed to food security as well as support for farmers and food producers
  • Lynchburg Grows ($5,000) – A nonprofit, community-supported farm and store that is also focused on nutrition education and outreach programs for local youth

Member One also expanded its “Season of Giving” charitable program this year, with its cardholders helping choose five local nonprofits to support.
