DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – Danville Police have charged a man with a DUI after allegedly leaving his vehicle at a railroad crossing, resulting in a train collision on January 12.
DPD said that officers responded to the railroad crossing at Edgewood Drive around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday after reports that a train hit an unoccupied 2015 Ford Focus.
30-year-old Luevano Ranferi Campos allegedly left the scene and then walked to his nearby home and called 911 to report “he got his vehicle stuck on the tracks,” police said.
Officers later arrested Campos at his home and charged him with driving under the influence
Danville police said the investigation is still ongoing. Campos received a $1,500 bond.
The Danville Police Department would like to remind everyone to designate a driver before engaging in any activities involving alcohol.
