Man charged after allegedly threatening to tie 96yr-old woman up during home invasion

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Wythe County Sheriff reports the arrest of a man after allegedly breaking into a woman’s home and threatening her with forced abduction in the Rural Retreat area on November 20.

The sheriff said around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, an off-duty deputy witnessed a man and a woman walking on Kimberlin Road allegedly enter the yard of a home belonging to a 96-year-old woman and then break into her home through the basement door.

The off-duty deputy attempted to contact the homeowner’s caretaker but there was no response. The two suspects were then seen by the deputy allegedly leaving the home with a lawn mower and a large garbage bag. The woman left the scene on foot down Kimberlin Road.

The off-duty deputy quickly approached the man and identified himself. The deputy allegedly recognized the suspect as Jason Boyer from past encounters and questioned him about the items.

Boyer said the items were given to him by the homeowner; however, when escorted back to the residence to verify the story, the 96-year-old woman denied his claim.

The homeowner told the deputy that the two suspects forced entry into her home through the basement, where she was in the kitchen. Boyer then allegedly threatened to tie her up. The female suspect then ran from the home and Boyer took the lawn mower and a trash can.

The off-duty deputy detained Boyer and contacted the Sheriff’s Office for backup. Upon securing the scene, deputies allegedly confirmed evidence of forced entry and burglary.
