Lynchburg opens warming center during freezing temperatures


LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – With much of the Southwest and Central Virginia region plunging into freezing temperatures, the City of Lynchburg is preparing and has opened a warming center.

In preparation for nighttime temperatures dropping into the low 20s in the coming days, the city has partnered with the Salvation Army on 2215 Park Avenue. The Warming Center was opened this past weekend and will stay open at least until December 4. See below for its location and operation times.

WARMING CENTERS

The City of Lynchburg has partnered with the Salvation Army, 2215 Park Avenue, to open an overnight warming center for unsheltered individuals and families. The warming center will be open:

  • Sunday, December 1 at 8 p.m. to Monday, December 2 at 8 a.m.
  • Monday, December 2 at 8 p.m. to Tuesday, December 3 at 8 a.m.
  • Tuesday, December 3 at 8 p.m. to Wednesday, December 4 at 8 a.m.

The shelter will close daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. This is a low-barrier warming center.
