Lynchburg City employee charged for embezzlement

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Lynchburg Police say they’ve charged a city employee with embezzlement.

LPD said it received a report on November 15 and found evidence of “recurring embezzlement activities” tied to the Lynchburg Progressive Firefighters Association. LPD says no city funds are associated with the non-profit group.

Shaquita Ford, an employee of the Lynchburg Fire Department, is charged with embezzlement and computer fraud. Police say Ford used computer systems to misappropriate funds.

LPD shared a statement from Lynchburg Fire Chief Gregory Wormser:
“This employee has been placed on administrative leave while the case is adjudicated in the legal system. We have no further comment at this time.”

LPD said this is an ongoing investigation.
