ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts are giving tips on staying safe and warm during the winter months.
With colder temperatures, there are ways to prepare to prevent health and safety risks. Consider the following:
- Dress in layers- Protect against hypothermia and frostbite.
- Stay indoors during extreme cold- Limit time outside, especially for kids and older adults.
- Heat your home safely- Avoid using ovens or grills for heat, and watch for signs of carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Prevent slips and falls- Wear proper footwear and clear walkways of ice and snow.
