Lambton Lions stay unbeaten in OCAA women’s basketball

Breanna Pretty had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds Wednesday in the Lambton Lions’ 65-59 comeback win over the visiting St. Clair Saints.

Maddy Bishop added 16 points, Legacie Blackbird had eight points and five steals, and Simone Wilson grabbed 11 rebounds as the Lions improved to 3-0 in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women’s basketball league.

They outscored the Saints 19-6 in the third quarter to erase a 34-30 halftime deficit.

In the men’s game, Albin Gashi scored 17 and Tutu Jangati added 15 off the bench for the Lions (2-2) in a 91-68 loss to the Saints.

Jerry Wilson had 12 points and Tyler Grevers scored 10.

Each Lions team will play an exhibition Saturday in Rochester Hills, Mich., before returning to OCAA action Friday, Nov. 8, at the Conestoga Condors.

LCCVI seeded first in football playoffs

Lambton Central, Great Lakes and Wallaceburg finished in a three-way tie for first place with 2-2 records in the LKSSAA senior football AA league.

Wallaceburg beat Great Lakes 30-14 in the regular-season finale Wednesday to create the logjam.

The first tiebreaker is fewest points allowed, so Lambton Central (61 points allowed) earned the No. 1 seed and a bye to the final.

Great Lakes (74 points) will host Wallaceburg (100 points) in the semifinal.

The playoff schedule hasn’t been announced.

Rops, Heynsbergen help Eagles soar

Ally Rops and Lily Heynsbergen each scored eight points and Alexis Wice had seven in the North Lambton Eagles’ 35-21 win over the Tilbury Titans in the LKSSAA senior girls’ basketball A regular-season finale Wednesday.

Lambton-Kent beat Blenheim 46-14 and Pain Court edged Chatham Christian 30-28.

Top-seeded North Lambton (11-1) will host Tilbury (6-6) while Lambton-Kent (10-2) plays Ridgetown (7-5) in the semifinals Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 5:30 p.m.

The final will be Thursday, Nov. 7.

Ursuline top seed for AAA volleyball

The Ursuline Lancers are seeded No. 1 for the LKSSAA senior and junior boys’ volleyball AAA playoffs.

Defending champion Ursuline (13-0-1) will host Northern (0-11-3) at 5:30 p.m. and Chatham-Kent (10-2-2) will host St. Patrick’s (8-2-4) at 6:30 p.m. in the senior semifinals Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Both matches will be preceded by junior semifinals: Northern (1-10-1) at Ursuline (10-0-2) at 4:30 p.m. and St. Patrick’s (5-3-4) at Chatham-Kent (10-1-1) at 5:30 p.m.

The senior AA semifinals Wednesday, Nov. 6, have Wallaceburg (3-9-2) at top-seeded Lambton Central (4-7-3) at 3:30 p.m. and McGregor (4-8-2) at Great Lakes (3-6-5). McGregor (0-11-1) also visits Lambton Central (4-6-2) for the junior AA semifinal at 5:30 p.m., with the winner going to Great Lakes (5-4-3) for the final.

All AA and AAA finals are Friday, Nov. 8.

Fulcher stars in Killer Bees’ net

Alvinston Killer Bees goalie Kaden Fulcher is the Ontario Super Hockey League’s second star of the week for making 50 saves in a 4-1 win over the Tilbury Bluebirds.

The Sarnia Sting alumnus and former Detroit Red Wings farmhand has a 2-0-0 record, 1.00 goals-against average and .975 save percentage in two starts.
