High school football playoff match-ups snap into place

Maple Ridge Ravens host the Eastview Wildcats this afternoon, while the Nantyr Shores Tritons will be in Collingwood to take on the Fighting Owls

High school football playoffs open today in Simcoe County, including one game in Barrie. 

With the six-week regular-season schedule now in the books, local high schools know their quarter-final opponents. 

In the Simcoe County Athletic Association (SCAA), the Maple Ridge Ravens (4-2) will host the Eastview Wildcats (2-4) today in a 12:30 p.m. start at the south-end school. The two teams did not meet during the regular season. 

Also today, the Collingwood Fighting Owls will host the Nantyr Shores Tritons at noon in a battle of 3-3 teams. Collingwood shut out Nantyr, 14-0, on Oct. 9. 

On Wednesday, the undefeated Barrie North Vikings (6-0) will play the winless Banting Marauders (0-6) beginning at 11:30 a.m. The Vikings blanked the Marauders, 48-0, on Oct. 4 during regular-season action. 

Wednesday’s playoff schedule also includes the Innisdale Invaders (1-5) making the short trip over to Bear Creek to face the Kodiaks (5-1). That game starts at noon. 

The SCAA semifinals are set for Monday, Nov. 4, with the championship final taking place Friday, Nov. 8 at Maple Ridge Secondary School on Prince William Way. 

Over at Catholic School Athletics of Simcoe County (CSASC), there will be two semifinal games Friday at Georgian College’s J.C. Massie Field. 

The top-seeded St. Joan of Arc Knights (5-1) will play the Patrick Fogarty Flames (2-4) at 12:30 p.m., followed by the St. Theresa’s Thunder (2-4) and the St. Joseph’s Jaguars (5-1) at 3 p.m. The St. Peter’s Panthers (1-5), who are the fifth team in the CSASC senior loop, did not qualify for the playoffs.

The CSASC senior final will be held Nov. 8 at J.C. Massie Field beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The SCAA and CSASC senior champions will meet for the Georgian Bay Secondary School Association (GBSSA) crown on Thursday, Nov. 14.

At the SCAA’s junior level, Collingwood (6-0) hosts Nantyr Shores (0-6) today at 2 p.m., while the Orillia Nighthawks (2-4) will be at Maple Ridge for a 2:30 p.m. start against the Ravens (3-2-1). 

On Wednesday, Bear Creek’s juniors (6-0) host Barrie North (1-5) at 2 p.m., and Innisdale (2-4) will be at Eastview (4-2) for a 2:30 p.m. game. 

The SCAA junior semifinals will take place Nov. 4 at Maple Ridge, with the final scheduled for Nov. 8, also at Maple Ridge. 

At the CSASC’s junior level, St. Theresa’s (0-6) will face St. Peter’s (6-0) at J.C. Massie Field beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by Patrick Fogarty (3-3) and St. Joan of Arc (3-3) at 3 p.m.

The CSASC junior final will be played Friday, Nov. 8 at J.C. Massie Field starting at 4 p.m.

The junior GBSSA championship game will take place Thursday, Nov. 14 at Maple Ridge.
