Health Department warns residents of a rabid skunk in Salem



SALEM, Va. (WFXR) – The Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts have confirmed a case of rabies in a skunk near Roanoke Boulevard and Pearl Street in Salem.

Steps to prevent rabies include:

  • Avoiding contact with wild and domestic animals.
  • Report animals who present unusual behavior.
  • Vaccinate your pets including, dogs, cats etc.
  • Call your doctor, local health departments, local animal control, and veterinarians if you or your pet is exposed to an animal with rabies.
