ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WFXR) – Rocky Mount Police say a woman from Wirtz has been killed during a head-on collision that occurred in Rocky Mount on January 17.
The crash occurred on Wednesday around 8:23 p.m. on North Main Street near the intersection of Woodlawn Drive. Police said a 2002 Ford Focus was heading north when the driver went into the southbound lanes, hitting a 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV head-on.
The driver of the Ford Focus was transported to Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital where she died due to her injuries. She was identified as 35-year-old Brittany Chyann Widener of Wirtz, Va., and she was the only occupant of the vehicle.
The driver and passenger of the Chevy Trailblazer were also transported to Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital and were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
