ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The 2024 Hardees Friday Night Blitz Player of the year was announced on Wednesday, December 25.
Grayson County’s Junior Quarterback Maverik Goad received this honor after running it in for two touchdowns and going into the air for four scores in the Blue Devils 40-34 win over Rye Cove in the VHSL class one in the state semifinals.
“It’s a surreal feeling, I mean I knew we were definitely capable of making it and coaches told us that all year, but when you get there, especially for it being the first time in school history… it’s a wild feeling,” said Maverik Goad.” Coach James he is an amazing coach and he has just sure all of our heads stayed calm especially starting the season like we did. He had an amazing impact on this season and the seasons in the past.
When Goad was asked what it means to him when he puts the Grayson County jersey on, Goad responded and said, “It’s a feeling he never wants to forget and I wish I could go back and do it again when it’s over. Thankfully I have another year, but the guys that I’m doing it with right now won’t get to do it again, and sadly one of those guys is my older brother, but its been an amazing feeling to get to play football with him growing up.”
