FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Franklin County Public Schools have made calendar changes based on school closures due to winter weather.
The Franklin County School Board met to discuss wrapping up the first semester by January 21 instead of the planned date of January 15.
Here are the following changes:
- Thursday, January 16 will be a regular school day.
- Friday, January 17 will be a regular school day and will be the last school day of the semester.
- Monday, January 20 will remain a holiday, and schools will be closed.
- Tuesday, January 21 will be a teacher workday for teachers to catch up on entering grades and make schedule changes for block classes in middle and high schoolers.
- Wednesday, January 22 will be a regular school day and be the first day of the second semester.
- Monday, February 17 will be a regular school day instead of a day off for all staff.
- Tuesday, March 25 will be a regular school day instead of a professional development day for teachers.
Future inclement weather days will be designed as a virtual learning day. Each school will send out instructions on how virtual learning will occur by the end of the week.
If future announcements for school closure do not say virtual learning, then it will be a regular snow day.
If you have questions about the plan for virtual learning you can reach out to the principal of your child’s school.
If the new changes have changed your family plans that were previously made, students can receive a granted excused absence for newly added school days.
