Franklin County adds new police K9 Shebang & first female handler


FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has announced a significant historic breakthrough in welcoming their first female K9 Handler and a new K9 Partner.

The Sheriff’s Office has welcomed Sergent Morgan Moorman with her partner K9 Shebang, a 16-month-old female yellow Labrador retriever trained in Electronic Scent Detection and as a Therapy Dog.

K9 Shebang was donated by O.U.R Rescue, an organization that is dedicated to ending child exploitation and trafficking. K9 Shebang has undergone levels of training with Jordan Detection K9. She will be able to detect electronic storage devices that might contain criminal-related activities.

To finalize her training, Sergeant Moorman completed a two-week handler course in Indianapolis, Indiana with Jordan Detection K9.

Since July 2018, Sergeant Moorman has served with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and she currently serves as the Sergeant over the Criminal Investigations Division.

In efforts to combat crime and protect children in Franklin County, adding K9 Shebang marked a new milestone in their mission. K9 Shebang is also available to other local jurisdictions when needed to assist.
