WYTHEVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – The Wythe County Sheriff’s Office says four people have been charged after a drug-related warrant search that led to a vehicle chase in Wytheville on December 8.
The sheriff said that on Sunday, law enforcement served a warrant related to the alleged distribution of meth at a motel room at the Ramada Inn located at Peppers Ferry Road.
During the search, 37-year-old Demetrick J. Perry and 31-year-old William Gage Freeman were found at the scene. According to the sheriff, Freeman was allegedly found in possession of 98 grams of methamphetamine, and both suspects were allegedly found with psilocybin (mushrooms) and pills. Additionally, $617 and a 2020 Honda Civic were also seized.

While the search of the motel room continued, a black Jeep in the parking lot suddenly fled the scene at a high rate of speed, the sheriff said. This started a vehicle pursuit as deputies chased the vehicle through the Town of Wytheville and then onto West Lee Highway. The chase continued onto Hogback Road and then Blacklick Road.
The pursuit ended when deputies successfully stopped the Jeep at the Blacklick Road and Kimberlin Road intersection. The occupants were identified as 32-year-old driver Larry Ray Bomar, and 22-year-old passenger Haley Danielle Shumate who were taken into custody at the scene.
Demetrick J. Perry has been arrested and charged with the following:
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute More Than 10 Grams of Methamphetamine
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Possession of Brass Knuckles
William Gage Freeman has been arrested and charged with the following:
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute More Than 10 Grams of Methamphetamine
Larry Ray Bomar has been arrested and charged with the following:
- Felony Elude Police
- Two Counts of Abduction (for refusing to let two passengers out during the pursuit)
- Reckless Driving
- Failure to Stop Before Entering a Public Highway
- Reckless Driving in a Parking Lot
Haley Danielle Shumate has been arrested and charged with the following:
- Possession of a Schedule 1 or 2 drug
