Feeding Southwest celebrates partnership with key speakers



WFXR News introduces the ‘Hunger to Hope Initiative’, a campaign designed to raise awareness about food insecurity in Central and Southwest Virginia. This initiative is a testament to our dedication to community engagement and addressing crucial needs in our region.

Highlighting the importance of community stories, the initiative aims to bring attention to the challenges and realities of hunger. With a focus on areas such as nutrition and the support of local food banks and shelters, ‘Hunger to Hope’ seeks to inspire action and provide insights into the issues facing our communities.

Collaborations with various local entities will play a significant role in the initiative, enhancing its reach and impact. Through these efforts, ‘Hunger to Hope’ aspires to contribute meaningfully to the dialogue and solutions surrounding food insecurity.

Feeding Southwest Virginia
With neighbors in 26 countries and nine cities in the Southwest Virginia region, Feeding Southwest Virginia opened in 1981 and is one of the largest suppliers of charitable food assistance in the area.

Providing food from a network of over 400 programs, supported by donors and volunteers help people gain access to millions of pounds of nourishment every year.

They are members of the Feeding America national organization and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks and contribute locally, as well as statewide and nationally to combat hunger.

Blue Ridge Area Food Bank
Fighting hunger across 25 countries and 8 cities on both sides of the Blue Ridge, this food bank operates distribution centers in Charlottesville, Lynchburg, Winchester, and their headquarters in Verona.

They have the help of over 400 partners and programs and provide food to over 100,00 every month through pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, schools, community centers, and health clinics.

They also have national support from the Food Bank of Feeding America, with more than 200 locations and the largest hunger relief agency in the country, as well as being a member of the Federation of Virginia Food Banks.
