Downed tree in Lynchburg sparks electrical fire & outage, one suffered smoke inhalation


LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – The Lynchburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire that caused a vehicle to ignite on February 3.

According to LFD, around 3 p.m. on Monday, crews responded to the 1200 block of Dandridge Drive after a large tree fell on power lines and caused a power outage in the area. Fire officials said this caused an electrical fire in the basement of a nearby home occupied by a handicapped resident.

When crews arrived on the scene, the resident was rescued from the basement of the home and then taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The fire was then extinguished.

The home is reported to have suffered smoke and fire damage. Restoration officers are working with the family to find temporary housing.

Traffic near the intersections of Old Forest Road, Dandridge Drive, and Ardmore Drive was backed up while firefighters and other emergency services were at the scene.
