ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Native trees and shrubs allow access to food and habitats for many as wildlife flourish in their natural environment.
In efforts to expand biodiversity, the Department of Forestry (DOF) is partnering with retail nurseries as a part of the Throwing Shade VA program. The goal is to incentivize people to buy trees, shrubs, and nurseries and aid the growth of native Virginia species and wildlife with discounts of 25 dollars and other trees at $50 or more.
The DOF is seeking more nurseries or gardens in Virginia while also spreading the word on the importance of native species to the state.
For anyone interested, applications are open for the spring of 2024. To aid in the effort you can register at nurseries must register with eVA.
