Turn your boring ensemble into a statement look by grabbing a stole or dupatta in a complimentary (or contrast) shade from the wardrobe of a woman in your life and throw it around your neck or drape it maharaja style. Slip into a pair of tan Kolhapuri chappals or a Rabari mojdi, roll up your sleeves and you’re good to go.

Kurtas that combine modern art influences with traditional cuts are always a hit. Bold and abstract patterns in vibrant colours like teal, mustard and maroon on kurtas with clean silhouettes are statements by themselves. You could also opt for a bandhgala with striking prints that mix geometric shapes or brushstroke patterns. Pair it with a solid coloured pant to let the jacket take all the attention.

Striking embroidery
For those who love being the ‘Orry’ of parties, say it out loud with a heavily embroidered kurta or shirt! While a forest garden design with multi-colour threads would be the best investment here, heavily embroidered fits in solid colours or jewel tones also work. Try kurtas, kurtis or even shirts that hit your thighs and can be teamed with loose satin trousers, loafers, or shiny shoes. Add to the drama with minimalistic jewellery, rimmed frames with pop-coloured glasses and you’re ready for the paps!

Classic co-ords or kurta sets in simple cuts and single tones of black, white, or deep jewel tones always work well for any festive occasion. Playing with the same tone in different textures — like jacquard and linen — adds charm. Think of a rust or indigo blue kurta and pants paired with a raw silk jacket for that sharp, coordinated vibe. If not a jacket or vest, a dupatta from the same colour family works equally well. Monochrome styles can keep the focus on sophisticated cuts, clean lines, and the powerful impact of a single colour.

Show ‘em your ‘back’
Unleash your creative side and give your plain kurta a makeover with some Do-It-Yourself art work. Paint ‘Diwali’ in your preferred script or your name on the back of the kurta in bold or glitter paint. Along with the focal point, add other elements of the festival like a diya, phooljhadi or even a flowery or statement brooch to the lapel or near the breast pocket for a one-o-its-kind look and become the talk of the town.
