Danville man arrested in connection to 2016 disappearance of Soledad Najera

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – After days of executing a search warrant at a home on Moorefield Bridge Road in Danville, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 56-year-old Roberto V. Escalante.

Escalante is charged with abduction, kidnapping, and first-degree murder related to the 2016 disappearance of Soledad Najera. Najera was reported missing in March of 2016.

WFXR News heard from Pittsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor earlier this week. Sheriff Taylor said investigators were looking for “critical evidence” that may advance their case.

Escalante is now being held without bond in the Pittsylvania County Jail. His first court appearance is set for Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m.

Investigators said they will continue with the search warrant at the property on Moorefield Bridge Road. The Sheriff’s Office also wanted to thank community members who called law enforcement officers with information surrounding this case. They say it was beneficial to the investigation.
