FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – People often mistook Kenny Law and Henry Lee Law for brothers, when in reality, they were first cousins.
Despite not being brothers, their relationship ran much deeper.
“It came to a point where we were together all the time, and we were tighter than brothers,” Lee Law said. “It was an honor to be raised up with Kenny and do all the stuff we did together, and we did a lot of stuff together.”
Law loved to work. He founded Law’s Roofing Company in the 1980s and ran that during the day for 20 years.
By night, he and Lee Law would be in the woods of Franklin County making moonshine. Even after the federal government cracked down on the illegal production of whiskey in 1999, Franklin County’s reputation has continued to grow.
It got so big, that the Discovery Channel invited the Law cousins to become regulars on its “Moonshiners” series, which is currently in its 14th season.
“When I’m watching the show and they say, ‘Meanwhile, back in Franklin County, Virginia,’ man that’s a rush,” Lee Law said. “I love it.”
The two’s run on the show took a turn last year when Kenny suffered a minor heart attack. After getting treated, the problems resurfaced again, and a blood infection spread to his heart and lungs.
He also struggled with diabetes for years, and all of it was too much on his body.
“He fought it, he was in the hospital for a month before he passed fighting it,” Lee Law said. “Finally, he just had to let it go.”
Law died on January 14, 2025, at age 68.
Since his passing, Lee Law has received overwhelming love and support from people who knew Law themselves.
“We’re getting people from all over the world reaching out about Kenny, and that’s just a wonderful feeling and great for the family,” Lee Law said. “We’re all excited about that, and we loved him to death, but now to know the whole world loved (him), that’s great man.”
Flora Funeral Services Incorporated held a public service for Henry Friday evening, and funeral services began at the Flora Funeral Chapel Saturday morning.
