Church explosion in Forest, details remain limited

CAMPBELL COUNTY, (WFXR) – On December 9, Bedford County Fire Crews responded to a church explosion in the 2400 block of Bateman Bridge Road.

Around 10:40 p.m. on Monday, crews responded to the Forest Level Baptist Church after an explosion and basement fire.

Company 5 and Campbell County Company 12 arrived to assess the fire and search the building. Ladder 1 and R1 helped tackle the flames and raise the aerial for lighting.

The building was then determined to be in threat of collapse and unsafe, forcing crews to move outside the collapse zone.

Ladder 1 and R1 were on the scene to assess the damage with Deputy Chief 5.

There are no reported injuries, and no one was in the church when the explosion occurred.

In a statement released through social media, The Forest Level Baptist Church said the following:

“Forest Level Baptist Church community is overwhelmed and mourning the loss of its beloved church.

At this time the entire church structure has been compromised; however, we are grateful to report that no one was harmed. We will provide updates that are consistent with the investigation that is underway. In the meantime, we ask for your continued prayers and support.
Pastor Marcin Wilson and Lady Wilson are thankful for all the calls, texts, and prayers that have already been extended. The church focus is now on healing, rebuilding, and, continuing to trusting in God. Thank you all from Pastor Wilson, Lady Wilson, and the Forest Level Church Members.
