ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Carilion Clinic is expanding its Midwifery Services to increase supportive women’s care during the stages of pregnancy and beyond.
“Midwife means ‘with woman.’ Our goal is to provide evidence-based, client-centered care throughout the lifespan, with a focus on wellness, shared decision-making, communication and counseling,” said Maria ‘Tina’ Johnson, director of Carilion Midwifery Services. “Whether you need an annual exam, contraception or care during the prenatal and childbirth experience, our team is with you every step of the way.”
Services include Obstetrics and Gynecology offers gynecologic, prenatal, maternal-fetal medicine, delivery and postpartum care and will now accept patients across new locations as services were previously focused on the New River Valley.

Along with Maternity Care, Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) will offer everything from preventative routine exams for adolescent and adult women to post-menopausal care.
“We are continually striving to meet our community members where they are and to offer individualized care experiences,” said Michelle Franklin, vice president of Carilion Women’s. “We are so excited to offer expanded midwifery services and consider it a privilege to care for our patients at every stage of life.”
CNM’s will also offer hospital-based births to provide care and medication options for women during labor and delivery.
